Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life (SEEL)
Program Description
This is a ten-month experiential learning program designed to form capable directors of the Spiritual Exercises through mentorship and internship involving close supervision.
Those who meet all of the Program requirements are awarded of one two possible certificates:
- Certificate in Direction of Ignatian Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life with Individuals
- Certificate in Direction of Ignatian Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life with Small Groups
Program overview
The program takes an experiential approach and includes the following:
- Mentorship through study and monthly group discussion of the structure, content, and dynamics of the Spiritual Exercises. In addition, students will explore the discernment of spirits and the influence of persons’ cultural context, human and spiritual development, and ethical concerns pertaining to the experience of the Spiritual Exercises for the retreatant as well as the director.
- Weekly Direction of individuals or small groups in the Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life (SEEL) with close supervision over the entire period of the SEEL retreat, whether with individuals or a small group.
Matriculation requirements
Ordinarily, participants in this program will have ~
- Made the full Spiritual Exercises according to the 19thor 20th Annotation with a guide trained in giving the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises.
- Received a certificate from a spiritual direction training/formation program.
- Experience in giving individual and/or group spiritual direction.
- Received spiritual direction regularly for at least two years.
- References from two persons; one from your own spiritual director and another from someone who has worked closely with you in the ministry of spiritual direction or spiritual leadership.
Program Requirements
All participants are expected to -
- Attend and participate in all scheduled face-to-face or virtual mentor and supervision meetings.
- Complete all assigned readings and written work associated with supervision.
- Receive regular individual spiritual direction.
- Complete an integrative paper (approximately 10 pages) by May 20, 2022.
- Attend the initial mentoring session on August 24 from 3:00 to 5:00 (EDT).
Those seeking the Certificate in Direction of Ignatian Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life with Individuals are expected to ~
- Direct two persons in the full SEEL while seeking the certificate.
- Complete written preparation for supervision with an approved supervisor; ordinarily meet weekly for 30 minute sessions and once a month for 90 minute session.
Those seeking the Certificate in Direction of Groups in the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life are expected to ~
- Attend and lead as appropriate small group sessions (90 minutes each) through the SEEL in close collaboration with your supervisor.
- Complete written preparation for supervision with an approved supervisor; ordinarily meet weekly for 30 minute sessions and once a month for 90 minute session.
COSTS
- Application Fee (Non-refundable): $50
- Total cost of program includes mentoring and weekly supervision.
Pneuma alums: $2,200
Graduates of other spiritual direction programs: $2,350.
